Another Barn

You've probably figured out that I have a thing for old barns. This one is on the North Umpqua highway near a small community called Glide.

Barn and Vineyard

Douglas County Oregon has many vineyards and wineries that produce ribbon winning wines. This old barn sits in front of a local vineyard. I thought the combination worked well.

For Annie: I don't drink wine so I can't make any recommendations for good Umpqua Valley wines but you can check them out here I hear Henry's Winery makes excellent wine.

Voila

So... I had a photo that was totally drab but I liked the composition. This was the tail end of a sunset from my trip up the coast last weekend.

I played with it using both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro and created my own sunset.



I couldn't get the sky smooth so I added some grain so I could pretend I didn't want a smooth sky anyway :)I know, I know.. God makes better sunsets than I do but it was fun trying.

Beach Grass

Off to Salem on an overnight trip so I'm posting early today.

Another shot from my weekend trip up the coast. At first I wasn't sure I liked this, but the simplicity is growing on me.

Whale Watching

These are not great photos, but the subject was very exciting to me. When I headed up the Oregon coast last weekend, I had no idea this was the time of year for whale watching. I was sooooo excited when I just happened to stop at a spot overlooking the ocean and there were 5 Gray Whales feeding in the area.

This is the first one I saw and my heart almost stopped. She was so beautiful and graceful and almost directly below me. I just had time to snap a couple photos before she disappeared back down into the water.

The other whales were further out and I mostly just caught their spouting and small parts of their bodies.





PHOTOWANNABE, you said you were whale watching in the same area a few weeks ago. I hope your sightings were as exciting as mine.

Oregon Town View

I drove up the Oregon Coast Friday and back down the coast today. I've been to so many places the past two days that I don't know for sure which town you see in the background here. Probably Newport or Lincoln City.



and since I promised two photos if I stayed overnight last night, this one is Newport for sure.

Headed Out

I'm headed off on an out-of-town photo excursion. I will probably be back tonight but if I happen to get too far from home and decide to spend the night somewhere, I'll post two tomorrow. Promise.

Unexpected Rural Charm

I've learned that when I go on a photo excursion often the best shot of the day I got only because I stopped to shoot something else. Today I drove up a country road and saw an old barn I wanted to shoot. I pulled off on the closest wide spot which happened to be by a farmers gate across the road from the barn. I got some decent shots of the barn and started to get back in my car when I noticed this old wagon wheel sitting next to a fence right beside my car. I would never have noticed this just driving by. The thistles were a bonus.

I'll post the barn photo another day.

Posing Squirrel

This little critter obliged me by letting me snap several shots before he scampered back into his hole.



I'm not sure if I like the color or the gray scale better.

Lookingglass Store

Lookingglass is a small rural community not far from here. It consists mostly of farms and ranches and can also boast of a school, a volunteer fire department, a church or two and this old country store.

Bandon Beach

Bandon, Oregon is about 100 miles from where I live. My daughter, grandson and I drove over today. The weather was warm with no wind which is unusual for Bandon.

Vintage Cars

The agency where I work had a picnic in a local park today. A group of folks with beautiful old cars came in to the park to picnic also and of course I had to get some shots.

I don't know the models and years of these cars but if anyone does feel free to leave the information.

The Other Side of The Fence

Doesn't it seem cruel for these sheep to be able to look over the fence and see this farmers green vegitable crops? Poor babies.

I was playing with textures and a shot of Queen Anne's Lace. I don't love this but I'm too tired to redo it. Night!

Wooden Boxes

Please forgive me for the reruns. Still can't upload. This was my first post on this Photo-a-Day blog.


I found these old boxes in a barn. They were covered with years of dirt and had become homes for ants and spiders and who knows what other crawly creatures. I did a lot of post-processing and I like the finished product.

And yet again I can't upload a new photo. This is frustrating.

This is another shot of a blossum from my plum tree. I was going to enter it in the Square Crop DPC Challenge, but decided not too. There are already 345 entries and I think this one is too far outside the box for most DPC voters anyway.

Again I can't upload a photo, so this is a repeat of a Feb photo.

This photo isn't technically wonderful, but it is so funny I'm posting it anyway. This Canada goose was scolding me I think. He stuck his tongue out at me anyway. He not only has a dirty tongue, he has a bubble on the end of his dirty tongue!! I laughed out loud when I first saw it.

Portland, Oregon. Yikes! It is fun to visit but when you live in rural Oregon, Portland can be very intimidating. I would soooo not want to live there.
