Needful Things... and Rust

A friend from work (thank you Cathey)told me about a country road she was on that had some neat old barns and "buildings with old things hanging on them". I found the old barns and of course got some shots of them, but when I found the "buildings with old things hanging on them" I was thrilled and stopped to take dozens of shots.

There are so many wonderful things on and around this building and a smaller one next to it, this will probably fill my blog for the rest of the week. I hope you find it as interesting as I do.

Happy Birthday Mom

Today would have been my mom's 84th birthday. She was a kind, gentle, beautiful women. She's been gone for 5 years. Do you ever stop missing your parents after they're gone?

Brick House Revisited

Some of you will remember this old broken down building from a few weeks ago. I went back to visit it today and was delighted to see some goats in the field.

I still couldn't get up close to it but I did walk further up and down the road to get some different views.

I like the detail and texture in the brick with the telephoto lens.

Abandoned

Coming home from the coast, we discovered this beautiful, old, large, abandoned house. It looks like Christmas trees are planted in front of it. I really, really, really want to explore this house and take some close up shots, but its on private property with a fence and a gate. Would you love to explore it too?

Pacific Waves

A trip to the ocean isn't complete without capturing the beauty of the waves with the white sparkling foam, the rich greens...

One more snow-at-the-beach shot

What I like about this shot is that the water and the sky are the exact same color.

First Night Sunset

Both evenings at the coast offered fair sunsets. This was the first night. The horizon doesn't look solid here but this is the way it came out of the camera. Not sure why it looks "broken". Maybe the waves in the distance?

More Snow At The Coast

More snow on the beach but it doesn't show up too well in this shot. You can see the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in the distance. This is near Newport, Oregon.

This shot isn't artistic but shows snow on the sand dunes. Another amazing thing.

Snow On The Beach

This scene is quite rare. It almost never snows at the coast. I was amazed to see it and I talked to a local in Florence, Oregon who had never seen it right on the beach either.

Ice

A friend and I spent a fun three days at the coast and I got some shots I really like. This was on the way to the coast. It was VERY cold and a small waterfall had started to freeze.

Thanks for all the comments on the snow shots. I'll get back to commenting tomorrow.

Annie, yes we did!

We did get covered with snow today. It was so beautiful. So I grabbed my camera, skipped a couple hours of work and headed to high ground. The good thing is that I had the roads all to myself. The bad thing is that the reason I DID have the roads all to myself was because they looked like this.

I got so many shots I really like but I won't lay them all on you at once.

A Broken Building and a Mystery

When I was out exploring last weekend, I discovered this beautiful broken down building. It is amazing and I plan to go back out and do more shooting. The mystery is what was this building used for? Its made of brick so I doubt it was built for a tool shed. Its too small to have been a house yet it has plumming. Its in the middle of a field next to a sawmill but I'm sure the building came before the mill.

Maybe I'll try to sneak into the field and get a better look next time.

An Old House, An Old Barn And A Funny Cow Story

Sunday I was driving near Camas Valley, Oregon and stopped to take a shot of an old falling down house and barn.
house and barn1

As I was clicking away, a cow at the other end of the field looked up to see what I was doing
house and barn2

and came to stare at me from the other side of the fence.
house and barn3

Soon other cows came to see what the first cow and I were doing
house and barn4

and they stared at me too... and started mooing. By this time I was laughing and clicking..
house and barn5

The more cows came.. the more cows stared.. the more cows mooed...the more I laughed
house and barn6

When I finally drove away there was a whole herd of cows standing by the fence staring at me and mooing.

And I'm sure people in Camas Valley are still wondering who that strange lady was standing by the road laughing like crazy and taking photos of ordinary cows.

Winchester Barn

I hope everyone doesn't get tired of my barn posts. This beautiful old barn is in Winchester Oregon. The grass was so green it looked unnatural so I went with B&W.
