Casa Belvedere, the Italian Cultural Institute on Grymes Hill, was the setting for Staten Island's nod to the fashion industry (and Fashion Week) a first-ever event celebrating local talent.
The evening proceedings inaugurated a three-day event in which organizers pay homage to and provide a unique opportunity to celebrate fashion here and recognize local designers.
To that end, last night's affair was an invitation-only launch party that provided some of the competition's finalist designers a chance to preview their work for such key supporters as models, designers, sponsors and in-kind partners, said Alex Porto, director of membership and outreach for the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation.  The evening was sponsored by Bella Magazine and Sovereign Mercedes Motor Limited.
